Share game save files between players

May 2026

Succession games in Dwarf Fortress. Play-by-email Civilization campaigns. Passing an XCOM save to a friend after your squad wipe. Trading RimWorld colonies. All of these involve taking turns on the same save file and getting it to the next player.

The usual workflow: alt-tab out of the game, find the save folder, zip it, open Discord or Google Drive, upload it, wait, tell the other person it is ready. They download, unzip, copy the save to the right directory, launch the game, and load. Every single turn breaks the game experience with 5 minutes of file management.

Use the shared folder as the save directory

With KEIBIDROP, both players point their game's save directory at the virtual folder. When player one finishes their turn and saves, the save file is written to the shared folder. Player two loads the game and the save is already there. No zipping, no uploading, no copying between directories.

Most games let you set a custom save path in the settings or launch options. Point it at the KEIBIDROP mount folder and saves sync between both machines automatically.

If the save file is large (Factorio worlds and Stellaris late-game saves can be hundreds of megabytes), it streams on demand. The game loads what it needs as it reads the file.

Games this works with

Any game that stores saves as files on disk. Some examples:

Civilization V/VI (play-by-email saves), Dwarf Fortress (succession forts), RimWorld (succession colonies), XCOM 2 (campaign passes), Factorio (world saves and blueprint files), Stellaris (hot seat campaigns), Total War (PBEM), Stardew Valley (co-op farm saves), Minecraft (world files), and any modded game where players take turns on the same world.

How to set it up

Both players install KEIBIDROP and connect (exchange codes once, save each other as contacts). Enable the virtual folder. Then in your game, set the save directory to the KEIBIDROP mount path. Both players now read and write saves from the same shared folder. Player one saves, player two loads. You never leave the game to manage files. The turn handoff happens entirely inside the game's save/load screen.

Encrypted

The connection is encrypted end-to-end between the two players. No server stores the saves. Useful if your modded save file contains things you would rather not put on a public Discord channel.

Works over the internet

Both players do not need to be on the same network. KEIBIDROP connects directly over the internet. If firewalls block the direct connection, an encrypted relay forwards the data without being able to read it.
