KEIBIDROP and LocalSend

Same idea, without needing both devices on one network.

By Marius-Florin Cristian · 2 September 2026

LocalSend works on the local network and says so on its own front page, so both devices have to be in the same building. KEIBIDROP connects across networks and countries, and it can mount the other machine's folder so you open one file instead of receiving the whole thing.

Works between countries

KEIBIDROP connects two machines wherever they are, and when a firewall blocks a direct connection the relay bridges it and forwards ciphertext it cannot decrypt. LocalSend is built for devices on one network.

Open one file, not the whole folder

KEIBIDROP mounts the other machine's folder as a folder on yours, and a read pulls only the bytes it touches, so a colourist opens the four takes they need instead of receiving the whole shoot. It is a real filesystem, so Premiere, Resolve, Blender, grep and git open a path on it the way they open a local one.

Encryption you can read

KEIBIDROP is MPL-2.0, so anyone can confirm the key exchange is X25519 with ML-KEM-1024. A recording taken today has to break both halves to be read once quantum hardware exists.

Common questions

Does LocalSend work over the internet?

No. LocalSend shares with nearby devices over the local network, which its own README and front page state. KeibiDrop connects across networks and countries.

Can I open one file without receiving the whole folder?

Yes. KeibiDrop mounts the folder and a read pulls only the bytes it touches, so opening one file out of a large project moves that file.

Does anyone need an account?

No. The two sides exchange an 86 character fingerprint once and connect on it afterwards. LocalSend needs no account either.
