Watch movies together long distance, while on a video call
Share the movie from your computer with KEIBIDROP, or straight from a browser tab. Your partner opens web.keibidrop.com, presses Play, and it starts in a few seconds. Nothing gets uploaded and nothing gets downloaded: the movie plays straight from your computer while you're both on FaceTime or WhatsApp.
There's no account and no subscription, and nobody else can see what you're watching, because it's encrypted the whole way.
We lived in different countries
When I met my wife, we lived in different countries. Not every film was available in both places, and watching the same thing at the same time meant one of us uploading a big file for hours first. Now I drop the movie into KEIBIDROP, she opens a browser tab, and a few seconds later we watch the same thing while we talk.
Set up movie night
- Install KEIBIDROP on the computer that has the movie, from the install page. It's free.
- Press Invite link and send it to your partner in the chat you already use.
- They open the link and press Join from this browser. They press Copy under their code and send it back. You paste it and press Add.
- You both press Connect.
- Drag the movie onto your KEIBIDROP window. In their tab it shows Play.
- Open the movie in your own player, they press Play, and you count down on the call.
No install for either of you
It also works with two browsers. Your partner drops the movie into web.keibidrop.com, presses Copy invite link and sends it to you. You open the link, send your code back, and you both press Connect. The movie shows Play in your tab, and your partner keeps their tab open while you watch.
The movie stays on your computer
Their browser asks your computer only for the part of the movie that's playing, a little ahead of time. Nothing is saved on their side unless they press Save. Nobody in the middle can see what you're watching or how big the file is, and the encryption is quantum-safe.
Your upload speed has to keep up
The movie streams from your home internet, so your upload speed matters. Average speed a two-hour movie needs, by file size:
| Movie file | Upload speed it needs on average |
|---|---|
| 2 GB | About 2.2 Mbps |
| 4 GB | About 4.5 Mbps |
| 8 GB | About 9 Mbps |
A speed test shows your upload number. Leave some room for the video call, which uses the same connection.
Play works for videos your browser can play, such as MP4 and MOV files. For other video files, your partner presses Save and plays the copy. We test Play in Chrome and Brave.
Your computer has to stay on and connected while you watch. KEIBIDROP doesn't pause both screens at once, so pause and play together on the call.
